Respected wine writer Huon Hooke has selected the Higher Plane Cabernet Malbec 2020 as "Buy of the week'' in The Real Review.com
Here's what he said:
"Cellarworthy wines need not be expensive. This is a single-vineyard wine from the Higher Plane vineyard in the Forest Grove area of Margaret River. Winemaker Mark Messenger blended 10% malbec with cabernet sauvignon. It spent 15 months in French barriques, 20% of which were new.
Starting with its deep red-purple colour and cassisy, nutty aromas, this is a solid red with authentic regional and varietal characteristics. There’s a definite blackberry-like sweetness at its heart, plenty of firm tannins chiming in on the finish. It’s very good value and will age well."
Score: 90 ★★★★
Ageing: now to 2032
Food: roast lamb rump with romesco and sugarloaf cabbage; shanklish salad (shanklish crumbled with tomato, onion and oregano) on the side.
