For me, Malbec is a huge part of the future of Margaret River. Originally a Bordeaux varietal but notoriously difficult to grow and really dislikes rain (much like winery workers!), it works incredibly well in Margs due to our dry summers yet mild temperatures.

2023 is the first year we have made a Heritage Malbec since 2018... it is only made in the great years. This wine is from a small low yielding block on the Juniper vineyard. It is marked by its concentration of flavour yet elegance and silky tannin.

This is a special wine. I think the 2023 vintage will go down as one of the greatest in our region's history. It is also special as 2023 was the handover vintage from Mark Messenger to myself. Mess made this wine, while I blended all the barrels and guided it to bottle. I was in awe of the quality and beauty that I had to work with.

When I tried this wine to ensure it was ready for release, I was so taken by the beauty of young Malbec. Dried rose petal, violet, a hint of Campari, mulberry and graphite, it was awash with seductive character. The palate is beautifully poised, at once deeply textured, richly fruited with clarity and length.

We are releasing this to Wine club first, but dive in... once it gets to cellar door it will disappear quickly!
